I have actually studied gems, stones and crystals for over 20 years so I'm excited to be using them more in my healing practice. As we discussed red is the color associated with the root chakra It symbolizes life, vitality and strength. In nature, red represents heat, fire and anger. Yet rose is the color of love, peace and universal harmony. All the red stones - ruby, garnet, red jasper, bloodstone, rose quartz, coral - are used with the root chakra.
The main question however, is "Okay, I've got a bunch of stones. Now what do I do with them ?" First you want to clean crystals physically. Put them in a warm water bath and allow them to soak for half an hour or as needed if they are very dirty. Then you will want to clear them of any energy that they are holding onto. My favorite way to do this is smudging. Since I host retreats and have a lot of visitors I try to smudge my home daily for both myself and my guests. Smudging my crystals is an easy addition to my daily ritual. Here is a great article on smudging if you are not familiar.
Crystals are activated by the sunlight and moonlight. You can place your crystals in a bowl in the sun for eight hours to allow them to charge and regain their strength. This is a favorite of mine because I have a large porch so this is convenient for me to do. Another way to charge your crystals is during the full-moon. I enjoy the full-moon and always try to engage in some ritual for myself even if I'm traveling so this is another way I enjoy cleansing my crystals. Simply place your crystals on the ground in the moonlight and allow them to stay there to charge until the next morning. The moon will do all of the work.
Lastly once your crystals are clean and charged you will want to set your intentions on them so that they can go to work. One way to do this is hold them in your hand and meditate about what you want them to do. Another way is to write your intentions down on paper and allow the crystals to absorb the energy of your intentions. An example of intentions you can place on root chakra gems could be 1. I focus my energy on being more financially stable 2. I seek support and love from my partner. 3. I am powerful and can handle life's challenges.
